What We Do

The Mission of the Minnesota Canoe Museum is to preserve and promote the art, culture, and history of canoeing and canoe country.

The Canoe Museum has a standing collection of heritage canoes and is seeking temporary or long-term exhibit sites, as well as a permanent location in or near Ely for the museum.

Our volunteers assist with nearly every aspect of the museum, including administration, archives, events, donations, fundraising, interpretive tours, maintenance, marketing, membership, planning, programming, and more.

We have sponsored guest speakers, “Adventurous Elyites” slideshow presentations, a canoe paddle art project at Ely Memorial High School, annual paddling celebration events, and a Wooden Canoe Heritage Association Regional Assembly in collaboration with the Ely Folk School, Listening Point Foundation, YMCA Camp Widjiwagan, and local businesses.
