Promoting and preserving the art, culture, and history of canoeing and canoe country.

The Minnesota Canoe Museum’s vision is a healthy canoe country environment where future generations care for our lands, waters, and all inhabitants.

The Minnesota Canoe Museum, established in 2008, is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization supported by volunteers, revenue from programs, and financial contributions from members, donors, and grant foundations.

We are seeking additional leadership, collaboration, funding, and development opportunities.

Strategic planning is underway to better align with the community's and region's needs and vision.

From First Nations and Indigenous Peoples of North America, who craft beautiful and rugged canoes, to innovators of high-tech racing, recreational, and work canoes, the Minnesota Canoe Museum celebrates the history and culture of the canoe and Canoe Country.

Learn and Embrace

The MCM is affiliated with the Ely Folk School (209 E. Sheridan St., Ely, MN) where canoe programming takes place.

We promote the Ely Folk School’s Birch Bark Canoe Project, which allows students to learn about Anishinaabe cultural values and participate in classes focused on gathering and processing forest materials to build beautiful birch bark canoes.

To support the museum, please mail your tax-deductible check to the Minnesota Canoe Museum, PO Box 22, Ely, MN 55731.

We appreciate your ongoing support!

Stewarding the Land

Protecting the Boreal Forest and pristine waters of the greater Quetico-Superior Region, including the 1854 Ceded Territory, Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness, Quetico Provincial Park, Superior National Forest, Voyageurs National Park, and other natural landscapes, is paramount to the legacy and future of canoe country.
